Islamic Explanation (Tafsir) of the Verse:
وَرَبَطْنَا عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِمْ"We gave strength to their hearts..."- This means Allah granted them firmness, patience, and courage in the face of oppression.
- "Rabatna" comes from rabṭ, meaning to tie or strengthen—indicating that Allah solidified their faith and removed fear from their hearts.
إِذْ قَامُوا فَقَالُوا رَبُّنَا رَبُّ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ"When they stood up and said: 'Our Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth...'"- Despite the pressure to worship false gods, they declared pure Tawhid (monotheism).
- They affirmed that Allah alone is the Creator and Sustainer of everything.
لَنْ نَدْعُوَ مِنْ دُونِهِ إِلَٰهًا"Never shall we call upon any god other than Him..."- A strong rejection of shirk (polytheism).
- They refused to compromise their belief, even under threat.
لَقَدْ قُلْنَا إِذًا شَطَطًا"We would certainly have uttered an enormity!"- "Shataṭan" means deviation, falsehood, or extreme wrongdoing.
- They recognized that worshiping anything besides Allah is a grave injustice and absurdity.
Lessons from the Verse:
- Allah strengthens the hearts of the believers—true faith gives courage in difficult times.
- Standing firm on Tawhid is essential, even when facing oppression.
- Rejecting shirk completely—no compromise in matters of faith.
- Speaking the truth with conviction, even when it is dangerous.
This verse is a powerful reminder for Muslims to remain steadfast in their belief in Allah alone, no matter the circumstances.
