🌙 The First 10 Days of Dhul Hijjah: The Most Blessed Days of the Year
Fill Your Heart and Tongue with the Remembrance of Allah 🤍
There are moments in the Islamic calendar that feel different. The air feels lighter. The heart feels closer to Allah. Duas feel heavier with sincerity. And the first ten days of Dhul Hijjah are exactly that — a window of divine mercy so wide, so generous, that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ himself called them the greatest days of the entire year.
If you've been waiting for a fresh start, a reason to reconnect with your deen, or simply a reminder to slow down and turn back to Allah — this is it.
What Makes the First 10 Days of Dhul Hijjah So Special?
Allah ﷻ does not swear by something unless it carries immense weight. In Surah Al-Fajr, Allah swears:
"By the dawn, and by the ten nights…" — (Quran 89:1-2)
Many scholars of tafsir, including Ibn Kathir (رحمه الله), explain that these "ten nights" refer precisely to the first ten days of Dhul Hijjah. When the Creator of the heavens and the earth swears by something, we stop and we listen.
The Prophet ﷺ confirmed their greatness in a hadith narrated by Ibn Abbas (رضي الله عنه):
"There are no days in which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allah than these ten days." — (Sahih Bukhari)
The companions asked: "Not even jihad in the path of Allah?" The Prophet ﷺ replied: "Not even jihad in the path of Allah — except for a man who goes out with his life and wealth and returns with neither."
Let that sink in. These ten days hold the potential for more reward than some of the greatest acts of worship in Islam. And the gates are open to all of us — right now.
Why Are These 10 Days So Beloved to Allah?
These ten days carry a unique spiritual weight because they combine the greatest acts of worship simultaneously: Hajj, fasting, charity, sacrifice (Qurbani), and remembrance of Allah. Millions of hearts around the world are oriented in the same direction — toward Allah, toward Makkah, toward gratitude and surrender.
Even if you're not performing Hajj this year, the blessings of these days are not exclusive to the pilgrims. Every Muslim, in every corner of the world, can share in the mercy that descends during Dhul Hijjah.
How to Make the Most of These Sacred Days
1. 🗣️ Fill Your Tongue with Zikr and Takbeer
The most emphasized act during these ten days is abundant remembrance of Allah. The Takbeer should be on your lips constantly — walking to work, cooking dinner, driving the kids to school, lying in bed at night.
اللهُ أَكْبَرُ الْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ سُبْحَانَ اللّٰهِ لَا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا اللّٰهُAllahu Akbar, Alhamdulillah, SubhanAllah, La ilaha illallahThe scholars say to recite the full Takbeer:
اللّٰهُ أَكْبَرُ، اللّٰهُ أَكْبَرُ، لَا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا اللّٰهُ، وَاللّٰهُ أَكْبَرُ، اللّٰهُ أَكْبَرُ، وَلِلّٰهِ الْحَمْدُ"Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, La ilaha illallah, Wallahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Wa lillahil hamd."This is not just ritual recitation. This is a declaration — that Allah is the Greatest in your heart above every worry, every fear, every desire of this world.
2. 🌅 Fast the First Nine Days (Especially the Day of Arafah)
Fasting in these days carries enormous reward. And the Day of Arafah — the 9th of Dhul Hijjah — is the crown jewel of them all. The Prophet ﷺ said:
"Fasting on the Day of Arafah expiates the sins of the previous year and the coming year." — (Sahih Muslim)
One day of fasting. Two years of sins forgiven. The mercy of Allah ﷻ is boundless.
Even if you cannot fast all nine days, try your best to fast on the 9th. Ask Allah to help you. He rewards the intention just as He rewards the action.
3. 🤲 Make Sincere and Heartfelt Dua
These are the days when duas are accepted. Don't let them pass you by in silence. Talk to Allah. Tell Him what's in your heart. Ask Him for what you've been too afraid to ask for. Ask for your family. Ask for the ummah. Ask for the believers across the world facing hardship.
The dua of a Muslim during these blessed days is not ordinary. Treat it with weight. Sit in seclusion, raise your hands, and let the tears fall. Allah hears everything.
4. 📖 Recite and Reflect on the Quran
These ten days are a perfect time to renew your relationship with the Book of Allah. Even if you read one page a day with reflection —
tadabbur — it is better than reading quickly with an absent heart. Let the words touch you. The Quran was sent as healing, guidance, and mercy. Open it like you need it, because you do.
5. 💸 Give in Charity (Sadaqah)
Charity in these days is multiplied in reward. Even something small — a few rupees to a person in need, sharing food, paying off someone's debt — carries tremendous spiritual weight. The Prophet ﷺ reminded us that sadaqah does not decrease wealth. It increases it, in ways we may not always see with our eyes.
6. 🐑 Qurbani — The Sunnah of Ibrahim (عليه السلام)
For those who are able, offering Qurbani on Eid ul-Adha (the 10th of Dhul Hijjah) is one of the most powerful acts of worship during this season. It is a living reminder of the ultimate test of Prophet Ibrahim (عليه السلام) and his complete submission to the command of Allah.
Every hair of the Qurbani animal holds a reward. Do not take it lightly, and do not let financial hardship stop you from donating toward collective Qurbani if individual sacrifice is not possible.
The Emotional Reality — Don't Let These Days Pass You By
Here is something worth sitting with: these ten days come once a year. And we are not guaranteed to see them again.
How many Dhul Hijjahs have passed while we were busy, distracted, or simply unaware of their value? Today is not too late. Even if you are reading this on the third or fifth or ninth day — begin now. Even one sincere prostration in these days, one heartfelt "SubhanAllah," one tear shed in dua, carries a weight on your scale of deeds that you cannot fully comprehend in this life.
The Prophet ﷺ said:
"A word light on the tongue but heavy on the scale — SubhanAllahi wa bihamdihi, SubhanAllahil Azeem."Your tongue can earn you Jannah. Use it.
A Prayer for Us All 🤲
May Allah ﷻ allow us to witness these ten days with open hearts and eager souls. May He accept every word of zikr we utter, every rakah we offer, every tear we shed in dua, and every act of charity we give. May He make these days a turning point for every Muslim who is trying to find their way back to Him.
May He accept our zikr, our duas, and our عبادات during these sacred days. May He grant Hajj to those who long for it, and grant the reward of Hajj even to those who could not make the journey.
آمين يا رب العالمين 🤲✨
